Located at Manor Farm Barn, Chavenage, Tetbury, the Wild Carrot is one of my go-to coffee stops, especially if I am cycling South of Stroud. One of my favourite Sunday coffee-rides takes me out of Stroud via Stonehouse and Frocester Hill along Kingscote via the attractive Hidden Valley to Chavenage and the Wild Carrot. It’s aimed at cyclists, having mostly outdoor seating with an attractive marquee for rain protection. There’s a tap for filling up your bottle, a bike repair shop, and very attentive/bike-savvy staff. On one occasion as we were leaving a staff member chased us up the road to inform us that my friend’s back tyre was flat, (we hadn’t noticed) and offered us the use of the track pump and puncture repair tools back at the site. There is some times music playing, you can keep an eye on your bicycles. Words can’t do it justice, go and see it yourself! O
2. Vestry Cafe
Bethesda Chapel, South Street, Uley (Nr Dursley), Gloucestershire GL11 5SS
- Quaint, little arts cafe with community-run feel
- Coffee, cakes, light snacks
- Outdoor seating area with rain shelter and space heaters
- Open Wednesday to Saturday
Located in Uley, the Vestry Cafe is housed within the Prema Arts Centre and serves tea, cakes, and light meals/snacks, and has a sheltered outdoor seating area. Full disclosure, I haven’t been there, but my partner has. Check opening times before going: it’s open Wednesday to Saturday. Can set you up nicely for a climb in Lampern Hill.
Thistledown Farm, Tinkley Lane, Nympsfield, Stonehouse, GL10 3UH
- Award winning campsite with onsite restaurant (usually needs booking), and drop-in cafe.
- Purpose built restaurant with cafe offering takeaway coffees and hot snacks
- Charming, attractive grounds and setting with views across the cotswolds
- Words don’t do it justice, go and see for yourself
- More than just a coffee-stop and great vibes
- Definetely worth the cycle climb out of Nailsworth for!

Top Cycling Coffee Stops West of Stroud towards Cirencester
1. Jolly Nice
Jolly Nice Farmshop & Kitchen, Frampton Mansell, Stroud GL6 8HZ
If I am cycling west of Stroud, this is my go-to coffee stop. There is a drive-through section so you can stay with your bikes. The takeaway hatch tea, cakes, and sumptuous sausage rolls. There is a seating area in the nearby field. I would call this more functional than quaint but the sausage rolls are off-the-charts good!
2.Felt Cafe, Bourne Mills, London Road, Brimscombe, GL5 2TA.
This place has been recommended and is on my looking forward to-do list.

3. The Bell At Sapperton, Sapperton, Cirencester GL7 6LE
Not as much a coffee and cake stop, but more a refreshing pint and salty snack stop with some outdoor seating to watch the bikes. Probably more a summer stop for that reason.
Top Cycling Coffee Stops North of Stroud towards Cheltenham/Gloucester
The Slad Road is a cyclist superhighway and the Woolpack is a great cycling stop for a cheeky pint, coffee and some salty snacks, and perhaps a scotch egg. It’s open every day, has got tonnes of ye old world character but gets very busy, especially at weekends.
2. Off Road Bean, Haresfield Beacon Car Park
Haresfield Beacon car park has a new coffee shop, Offroadbean.co.uk, which serves a great cup of coffee, cakes, and light snacks. Nigel the owner is there Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday but check out the schedule on his website. It’s just what you need after climbing the Haresfield Beacon or a great stop-off point before heading back into Stroud.
Again this can get busy at weekends and so this is a kind of cheeky beer, coffee, and salty snacks kind of place too.

Frocester George, Frocester, Foot of Iconic Frocester Hill
- Lots of outdoor seating in charming courtyard, so perfect for cyclists
- Great for coffee and cheeky pint
- Flexible bar menu available with light snacks
- Can’t put my finger on it really, but just a pleasant cycling stop.
